Central bank says Russians' demand for cash rises dramatically
MOSCOW, Jul 10 (PRIME) -- The Russian central bank has registered an untypically high demand for cash as compared with the last several years, the central bank said in a report on Friday.
"The importance of call deposits has grown dramatically due to the influence of temporary uncertainty over the prospects of the macroeconomic situation development during the coronavirus pandemic. This was also the reason for untypically high demand for cash as compared with the last several years to persist," the statement read.
The amount of cash in circulation rose to a record of 12.42 trillion rubles as of July 1.
